When expectations are high, the disappointment may be even higher. That’s exactly what happens after an incredibly adventurous ride up the second most dangerous road in the world (See Bonus pictures) and a lovely hike up the famous Fairy Meadows, including some motivational encounters with domestic tourists. After enjoying the sun and getting a few first glimpses of Nanga Parbat, I get struck down by altitude sickness. Instead of enjoying the view and the vibes up here, I take a four hour nap. At least the campfire is a vibe✌🏼

Mahmud runs the @raikotsaraihotelshere at Fairy Meadows and was one of the first to host people up here more than 30 years ago. He is a kind soul and lets @schmidi_999 and I stay for free. When it starts raining he offers me to stay in the hut of some workers instead of my hammock. When I ask him about how he feels about Fairy Meadows today he gets self-critical. The overtourism is not good and many people here try to abuse the opportunity of tourists, he says. His honesty and kindness is refreshing and inspiring.

After finding a lift from Fairy Meadows to Naran and spending the night there, we try to get to Islamabad today. After having to wait for more than one and a half hours we finally get a lift from a public transport truck. After 10 minutes I get something stuck in the eye and the hitchhiking day of nightmares takes it’s course. I also lose my hat and my sunglasses. I try to rub out my eye and make it even worse. Every blink hurts like a thorn in my eye. At least we make it to Islamabad. The pain killers I get in the hospital are my favourite part of the day.
