Gilgit-Baltistan

[still catching up on hitchhiking content, swipe ⬅️ and check captions]

Sunday, 2nd of July
We start the day early to hike up to Marsur rock with our guide Zanam, who is a local here in Broq. It’s definitely one of the more challenging hikes I’ve done in my life. Without 17-year-old Zaman, we probably wouldn’t have found the correct track. On the way up I was definitely in „Just put one foot in front of the next Jakob!“ mode. It was ridiculously exhausting. But the view and the feeling were definitely worth the total of about 1600 meters in altitude and 10km. Not gonna lie, even though I’m not really scared of heights I did very much shit my pants out there.

After hitchhiking back from Skardu to Gilgit and spending the night there, we visit beautiful Hunza valley next. Already on the way to our destination Karimabad, we get a great look at massive Rakapishi, sitting at 7788 meters (See Bonus Picture). @schmidi_999 has already been to Hunza before so we can stay in the garden of a hostelowner for free. Time for the hammock! And time for a full moon. Which makes for a pretty sick combination with the surrounding mountains. Of course the rain has to make an appearance. The hallway is comfortable too.

The weather in Hunza unfortunately is not the best so I decide against going to the highest border in the world between Pakistan and China. I’m just going to have to save some things for the next time I come. Northern Pakistan is as beautiful as it is wild. Eagles Nest viewpoint is certainly proof of that. From here you can several peaks that are 7000 meters or higher. On the way up we get taken by a few guys who are on a company trip and are absolutely hilarious. (See bonus picture)
