Storyyyyy Time! Dear Diary, this was my first Truck-Ride

Remember the truck with the license plate from Novi Sad? Well, I couldn`t find him again. But in hindsight I`m 100% sure it was for the better.

Because instead Voya stopped for me. My 5th ride in total and first ever ride with a full-on massive 24t Truck. And what an experience that was!

Voya only had one condition for me – and no, the sausages were not part of it hahaha – he wanted me to remove my shoes before entering the truck.

He had an amazingly extra and fancy truck. With a carpet of his favourite team @crvenazvezdakk and all the nice little details, pictures of his wife and daughter.

During the ride, Voya kept on revealing more and more secret drawers to me. He had so much food on his truck and he insisted on sharing some with me. „Serbian hospitality“, he said. I am now a proud owner of a liter of milk. And I have one Kobasica sausage left. 🫶🏻

Voya has been a truck- and busdriver for almost 20 years and I caught him on a gig driving all the way from Liverpool to Turkey. According to him, huge tree cutting machinery. I fortunate enough to join him from just outside Budapest all the way to the border with Serbia. Just under 200 km in 2.5 hours. His driving style was… wild hahaha „Fucking monkey“, was all he said when someone honked at him for going on the left lane. 😂

He would have taken me all the way to Novi Sad, where he takes a pitstop to see his family. Unfortunately, the waiting time for trucks at the border might have been anywhere between 6 and 10 hours so I decided to walk across the border instead. So it was farewell from there. Mnogo hvala, Voya!

Crossing the border without a vehicle was no problem whatsoever. But it was an eery and dodgy feeling, seeing all the huge fences. Having Frontex cars drive around. I can only imagine how someone might feel attempting to go the other way and who doesn`t have passport privilege like I do.

Hitchhiking from the border was a whole nother challenge. But that’s a different story!
Until then!
