Saturday, 27th of May
We are the only people stupid enough to visit Star Valley on Qeshm Island, the biggest of the Iranian islands in the Persian Golf. The heat is punishing but the rock formations are rewarding (see bonus picture). Enjoying the view, we spot a herd of goats and decide to explore. We meet this local man, offer him a cigarette and learn how to call the goats. He is alone. But he doesn’t seem lonely. What do you think about all day when you are just surrounded by a herd of goats and no one else? What sort of wisdom do you develop? Unfortunately we won’t find out. There is no phone reception to use our translation apps.
Sunday, 28th of May
I’ve written this before but nothing beats the magic of being in the right spot at the right time. We meet Sahnaz (see bonus picture) in a shop at Kandalou Port. Trying to get to Hengam Island without any plan about ferry schedules. She turns out to be a wakeboarding instructor on the way to a lesson. And what begins with pure “coincidence” unfolds into another unforgettable afternoon. The partying travel group from Tehran that offers us their full hospitality plays a significant role as well of course 😅
Monday, 29th of May
Sometimes you can just feel the positive vibes, the love and kindness in a place. @hoo.vi in Bandar Abbas is such a place. After not really planning ahead I find @taravat.hamzavi on Couchsurfing and read about her Artgallery/Café/open space and we decide to just show up to the place and hope they might be able to host us. And guess what. It works. The team and friends are just amazing and make us feel right at home.
