Wednesday, 14th of June
After a lovely Couchsurfing-hangout with @aveczahra (see Bonuspicture) it’s time for me to hop on the bus for the last time in Iran to my last stop: Chabahar, Balochistan. As always, on busrides I take my time to reflect. And I get emotional. Defining the emotions is hard. Grateful for what I’ve experienced in this country. Grateful for all the new connections I’ve made. Grateful for the love and kindness people have showed me. But also sad because it’s time to leave. Sad because I feel like I haven’t given back enough. And sad because I don’t know when or if I’ll be back one day.
But hey… at least there is leg space!
Thursday, 15th of June
I tell my @couchsurfing host @imranhoath that it’s my birthday tomorrow and when He says “do you want it to be different?” I don’t think twice. When he brings out the traditional Shalwar Kameez as a birthday gift and I officially receive the nickname “Bolan” I already know this is not only going to be different. This is going to be unforgettable. He takes me and @amd.albalushi to his home town Gabolani. Imran tells me that many people in this area are not poor at all. They have plenty of money. But yet they choose a simple lifestyle. It’s a conscious choice and they enjoy their lives in Balochistan that way.
Friday, 16th of June
My birthday starts at 4am in order to escape the relentless heat in wild Balochistan. We spend the day with @kazem_hoot1995 who is a popular content creator in Balochistan. He is a true adventurer and pioneer and has been to places in his homeland where nobody else has been (See Bonusvideo!) This is also how he discovers the home village of 9 year old Marukh and her family(see bomuspic). They live only 10km from the border to Pakistan and before Kazeem visits them for the first time, she and her sister have to walk 5km to get water every day. There’s no electricity. Again: a conscious choice to stay in this remote place instead of moving to a larger village. The day ends with another surprise for my last night in Iran thanks to @boomgardi_taraanag 🙏🏼
